Layer cake (Mrs. Lawrence)
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 2/3 cup flour
- 3 teaspoons B.P.
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 7/8 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

Cocoa cream cake
- 2/3 cup Crisco
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 eggs unbeaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon B.P.
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 cup sour cream
Blend crisco, salt and vanilla. Add sugar gradually and cream well. Add eggs singly, beating well after each addition. Sift baking powder, soda, and cocoa with flour 3 times. Add flour to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, mixing after each addition until smooth.
Bake in 2 8 inch greased layer pans in moderate overn (350º F) 30 to 35 minutes.
Spread cocoa cream frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake.
