Frostings or Icings
Layer cake #1 (Mrs. Lawrence)
- 2 cups sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa
- 1 cup Karo syrup
- 1 cup milk
- 1 lump butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Coconut Cream #2 (Cocoa cream)
- 2 tablespoons Crisco
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ⅓ cup cocoa
- 2 ½ cup sifted confectioner’s sugar
- about 6 tablespoons scalded cream
Blend Crisco, butter, vanilla, and salt. Sift cocoa with sugar. Beat in ½ cup (sugar and coca mixture) add hot cream, alternately with remaining (sugar and cocoa mixture) beating well after each addition. Add only enough cream to make a nice spreading consistency.
Spice cake #3
- ⅓ cup Crisco
- 2 eggs
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup chopped raisins
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 ⅓ cup sifted B. sugar
- ½ cup milk
- 2 ½ teaspoon B.P.
- ½ teaspoons cinnamon
Cake
Put all ingredients together in mixing bowl and beat thoroughly until smooth. Bake 20 minutes, in layer cake tins at (370ºF)
Frosting
Cream thoroughly 8 tablespoons Crisco, blend 2 2/12 cups xxxx sugar and 1 tablespoon cocoa. Mix with Crisco and add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Add sufficient liquid coffee to make proper consistency for spreading
