Barbecue sauce
- ⅓ cup minced onion
- 3 tablespoons butter
- ⅓ cup vinegar
- 2 tablespoons B. sugar
- 1 cup ketchup
- ½ cup water
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons prepared mustard
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Cook onion in butter until tender. Add remaining ingredients and simmer covered 10 minutes.
Makes 2 cups (1 teaspoon Tobasco sauce)
White sauce
- 2 tablespoons corn starch
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 ½ cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Mix stark with small amount of milk then add remainder of ingredients.
Green sweet tomato pickles
Take 7 pounds green tomatoes sliced ¼” thick. Soak 24 hours in 4 handfuls of lime water. Then soak 2 hours in clear water. Make a syrup of 4 lbs. sugar to 3 qts. vinegar, one box whole spice. one box cloves, one box cinnamon. Put tomatoes in syrup and boil for about two or three hours or until tender. Just before taking off, add one pound seeded raisins.
