Cake

Spice cake

• 1/3 cup shortening
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup sweet milk
• 2 cups flour
• 1 cup raisins
• 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
• 3 eggs
• 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
• 1/4 teaspoon cloves
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon soda

Poor devil food cake

• 2 cup sugar
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1/2 cup water
• 2 cup flour
• 1/2 cup cocoa in 1/2 cup hot water
• 3 eggs
• 1 teaspoon soda
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon flavoring

Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks and cold water, slowly add flour, baking powder and soda. Add egg whites and last add cocoa in hot water. Bake in moderate oven.

Pound cake

• 4 eggs
• 1 cup butter
• 2 cups sugar
• 3 cups flour
• 1 cup sweet milk
• 3 teaspoons baking powder

Or

• 3 eggs
• 3/4 cups Wesson oil
• 2 cups sugar
• 3 1/2 cups flour
• 3/4 cups sweet milk
• 3 teaspoons baking powder

Cream butter and sugar well, add egg yolks well beaten, sift flour 3 times, add milk then flour. Beat all well, add egg whites and 2 teaspoons lemon extract.
