Ice box hot rolls
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 qt sweet milk
- 6 or 7 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cake yeast
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Put milk, sugar, and shortening in and let come to boil. Cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water, add to first mixture, add 5 cups flour. Let rise 2 hours, then take 2 cups flour and add soda, salt, and baking powder and sift together, add first mixture. Don’t work to much. Place in greased bowl and put in ice box 2 hours before baking and let it rise 2 hours. 400º 12 to 15 min.
Ginger bread
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 egg
- 1 cup nuts
- 3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2/3 cup crisco
- 1/2 cup molasses
